Hypnosis is a completely natural phenomenon that we all experience several times a day. Used clinically, hypnosis is a relaxed state of focused attention, which allows you to tackle your issues easily and effectively.
Now then: the myths. So, you can’t get stuck in hypnosis, you won’t eat an onion, and you won’t do a chicken dance. You will be safe and in control at all times. I can’t (and wouldn’t) ask you to do or say anything you wouldn’t normally. I will simply be guiding you to your own solutions and understanding. Most people find it really pleasant, as it is both relaxing and energising.
Clinical hypnotherapy is a practical and effective form of therapy that uses hypnosis to facilitate change. It has been proven to work more quickly (and enjoyably) than other therapies. However it is not a miracle cure, and in order to achieve the best results, we’ll need to work together.
At the Seymour Clinic, I use Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy or Hypno-CBT, which is a really effective approach to changing your thoughts and actions. This in turn can make a big difference to how you feel.
There’s a growing body of scientific and clinical evidence to demonstrate the effectiveness of combining hypnosis and CBT, and I’ll be delighted to give you details and examples of this research if you’re interested.
One fundamental component of CBT is homework, which is set between sessions. It’s vital to get this right, because real change occurs from the things you do every day, and not just in the sessions you have with me.
Homework from me usually involves practising self-hypnosis by listening to your personalised recordings . Sometimes we’ll agree on other fun challenges and practical exercises that will help you get where you want to be. I promise it won’t ever be too difficult or time-consuming, and ideally it will be something you can look forward to.
Clinical Hypnotherapy is a amazing therapy for anyone who feels held back by worry, fear, self-doubt or anxiety. It can offer a new approach to solving problems, allowing the ‘real you’ to flourish and succeed in life, on your own terms.
It worked for me, and it’s worked for millions of people. Are you ready to give it a try?
